Based at the Argyros School of Business and Economics, the Economic Science Institute (ESI) held the 23rd Annual Visiting Graduate Student Workshop in Experimental Economics last January with the participation of 20 doctoral students from overseas. Spread out over 10 sessions, students were introduced to experimental economics by learning practical skills to design and perform experiments and also gain exposure to the deeper philosophy of economics. Participants were able to perform experimental studies and interact with many experts in the field.
Among the esteemed teachers at the annual workshop was Chapman University professor Vernon Smith, co-founder of ESI. His earlier experiments led to the development of the experimental economics field and decades later he was co-awarded the 2002 Nobel Prize in Economic Science.
