The Orangewood Foundation was founded in 1981 as a shelter for children who had been abused or neglected. In the intervening decades, the foundation turned its attention to helping children in the foster care system with the transition into adulthood. This effort involves grants and college scholarships, mentoring, life-skills workshops, and transitional housing. As a charitable entity, the Orangewood Foundation is funded by donations and the proceeds of fundraisers. Accordingly, the foundation holds events benefiting different programs. One of these events is the annual 44 Women for Orangewood Scholarship Luncheon.
The luncheon, now in its 12th year, will be held on June 10, 2016, at the Resort at Pelican Hill. Proceeds will go towards supporting the Orangewood scholarship fund. This year’s event will feature as guest speaker, the country singer, New York Times best-selling author, and former foster child Jimmy Wayne.
