Founded in 1951, MDA is committed to serving people with muscular dystrophy and their families. It performs a three-fold mission: find more effective treatments and cures, provide care and support to the thousands of patients living with muscular dystrophy and their families, and empower patients and families through its annual summer camp.
The MDA Summer Camp is an annual program that promises to give children with muscular dystrophy and other muscle-debilitating diseases their “best week of the year.” During the entire week, participants enjoy activities such as horseback riding and swimming, arts and crafts, and camp dances. The program also incorporates a socialization activity in order to foster friendships among the children. Because they are away from home and are under the personal care of someone other than their parents, camp participants also learn how to become more independent.
