The AHA has remarked that healthy habits may deter the aging-related deterioration of vascular health. Research published in the AHA journal “Hypertension” shows that modifiable life choices, such as diet, exercise, and smoking, greatly impact vascular blood vessel stiffening over the course of a lifetime.
According to study author Teemu J. Niiranen, M.D., maintaining a healthy weight and avoiding diabetes are the two most important factors to preventing blood vessel deterioration. The AHA has developed a “Simple 7” guide to help people make better decisions for their heart health. According to Dr. Niiranen, people will more likely have healthier aging blood vessels if they meet six of the seven goals.
